University Lecturer in Public Health Science

The Department of Health Sciences operates at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The department educates and conducts research in a range of subjects, focusing on humans, health, and well-being.

The department offers courses, undergraduate programs, and advanced level education. Our undergraduate programs include the Public Health Science program, the Sports Science program, the Mental Health program, the Health and Rehabilitation in Working Life program, and the Nursing program. The research is multidisciplinary and is conducted in the fields of public health science, sports science, medical science, nursing, and rehabilitation science, as well as at the National Winter Sports Centre (NVC).

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include course management, teaching, supervision, and examination of students primarily within the subject's courses at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels.

The work also involves participation in program and subject development as well as the development of online courses. Furthermore, the job entails active participation in the department's development work, administration, and the subject's research environment. Courses are primarily offered as distance education without physical meetings, which means web-based communication on Mid Sweden University's learning platform Canvas. At Mid Sweden University, there are opportunities to qualify as a qualified and excellent teacher. The employment includes professional development and administration according to applicable working time agreements and local guidelines.

Qualifications

Eligible for the position of university lecturer in public health science is one who has demonstrated pedagogical skills, has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence, or has other professional skills that are significant in relation to the subject matter and job responsibilities.

The eligibility pertains to a doctoral degree in public health science or in related fields (e.g., health science).

For eligibility as a university lecturer, a higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits or at least 10 weeks of full-time studies is required; if this is lacking, the employed university lecturer must achieve this within two years from the date of employment.

Other Requirements

The person employed must be able to perform administrative and pedagogical tasks that require an understanding of and ability to use the Swedish language, as all courses and education are in Swedish. We intend to expand our international collaboration regarding education and research, and therefore good knowledge of English is also expected.

You must have documented good communication skills, supported by grades and references. You need to be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs and circumstances. Furthermore, you are expected to have an openness to work with pedagogical development as well as course and subject development, as well as contribute to collegial work at both the subject and faculty levels.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria for the appointment of a lecturer shall be the degree of such competence that is a requirement for eligibility for the appointment. Equal care is given to the assessment of pedagogical skills as to scientific skills.

Other Merits Relevant to the Position

Experience of course management, various pedagogical working methods, and distance teaching, as well as teaching experience in courses at the higher education level within public health science subject areas are meritorious. Particularly meritorious is experience in teaching health economics, social epidemiology, organization, and leadership. Experience in teaching research methodology and supervising student theses at undergraduate and advanced levels is also meritorious.

As the subject is very research-active, it is also meritorious if the applicant conducts research in one of the subject's three prioritized areas: 1. Health of children and adolescents, 2. Work life and health, and 3. Global health.

Experience in practical public health work and in applying for and obtaining research funding is also meritorious.
