Job Responsibilities

The Department of Communication Systems conducts world-leading research in wireless communication.

The research encompasses not only traditional radio-based communication systems but also underwater acoustic communication systems, where bandwidth and energy are limited and the propagation environment is very complex.

Within the EU project ASTERION, we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher who wants to investigate new approaches for underwater communication systems. The focus is on developing methods for Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) that enable acoustic communication signals to serve a dual purpose: transmitting information while also functioning as sonar pulses. This requires managing fundamental trade-offs between data rate, sonar performance, and robustness against multipath propagation.

The position involves theoretical modeling and analysis, algorithm development, and experimental validation. There is an opportunity to participate in sea trials and evaluate developed methods under realistic underwater conditions.

The postdoc will work closely with national and international partners and will have the opportunity to influence the project's technical direction.

Qualifications

Requirements

• PhD degree or foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made.
• Documented research competence in signal processing or communication theory.
• Excellent ability to express oneself in spoken and written English, as this is required for daily work.

Desirable

• At the closing date of applications, no more than three years since PhD or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD was obtained.
• Experience in underwater acoustic communication.
• Experience in experimental research.
• Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
