Environmental Development Leader at Region Västmanland

Job Responsibilities

The Sustainability Department has a cross-sectoral mission to support management and the region's administrations in sustainability work with a focus on the organization itself. Within sustainability, we work with issues that encompass environmental and climate concerns as well as human rights.

You will become part of our environmental team within the Sustainability Department. You will carry out assignments and drive projects together with our administrations and operations in various environmental areas, as well as provide support and develop environmental management work. One of the region's focus areas within the environment is circular material flows with a focus on disposable items in healthcare. The work is carried out both independently and together with other team members.

As an Environmental Development Leader, your responsibilities will include:

  • initiating, leading, and participating in development processes and collaboration projects
  • managing and developing methods and tools to plan, implement, and follow up politically set goals.
  • supporting, informing, and conducting training.
  • being a support to the region's environmental representatives.

About the Workplace

The position is located at the Sustainability Department and belongs to the Regional Management in Region Västmanland. The department works region-wide for sustainable development within its own organization. You will be part of a team with nine colleagues, four of whom work more specifically with environmental and climate issues. We contribute expert knowledge to integrate sustainability into governance and management processes, ensure the conditions for the region to work resource-efficiently, and support the operations in achieving the region's sustainability goals. The region is a Finnish administrative area, where the Sustainability Department coordinates the work.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • University or college degree in environmental and climate studies
  • Current multi-year experience working systematically with environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Current experience leading projects and driving change initiatives

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Current experience working with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Current experience in business development
  • Current experience driving projects and change initiatives related to quality and efficient resource use
  • Current experience conducting training
  • Current experience working in public administration, preferably environmental issues in healthcare.

To succeed in this role, you need to be results-oriented and have the ability to drive projects and assignments all the way to completion. Since the position involves many different points of contact, you need to be good at collaborating and building relationships. You have strong communication skills and are comfortable conducting training, meetings, and workshops. Furthermore, you have a solution-oriented approach while maintaining a holistic perspective and focus on the goal.
