About the position

As a teacher in a special upper secondary school for the deaf and hard of hearing, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on teaching based on the individual needs of the students. You create a clear, safe, and inclusive learning environment and work with structures that support students' development and participation. You collaborate closely with student assistants, colleagues, and student health services to adapt teaching and provide the right support for students. During the school day, you are present in the classroom and in other activities where you contribute to both learning and social development.

Examples of job responsibilities:

  • plan, implement, and evaluate teaching for students in the special upper secondary school for deaf and hard of hearing students
  • provide individually adapted support for students with special needs
  • work based on clarifying pedagogy
  • collaborate with students' guardians, other staff at the school, and the student accommodation
  • be responsible for a class in the role of class teacher/mentor

About the workplace

At Tullängsgymnasiet, there is the only municipal special upper secondary school for the hard of hearing and deaf in the country. We offer an individualized education in a sign language environment, with a holistic view of learning and development aimed at further developing the student's communicative and social skills. Our goal is for the student to receive support in their learning through various individual adaptations that provide the best possible conditions for development both academically and socially. The school has both national and individual programs. We work in a creative environment where the activities are an integrated and completely natural part. With us, students receive a four-year individualized education. For students who do not live in Örebro municipality, we offer student accommodation.

Tullängsgymnasiet is part of the Upper Secondary and Labor Market Administration. Here, 1,400 employees work in various roles to provide youth and adults in Örebro the same opportunities for education and self-sufficiency. Within the administration, there is expertise in many different areas and activities, which means that you as an employee have great opportunities for professional development in a creative and varied environment.

Qualifications

As a teacher, you need to create structure and safety in teaching through clear and present leadership. You contribute to a positive and calm learning environment by collaborating well with both colleagues and students. The role requires you to adapt methods and teaching based on different needs, as well as to pedagogically guide students' development and learning. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements:

  • teaching certification with authorization to teach in primary school, or an equivalent qualifying degree that entitles you to teaching certification
  • good knowledge of sign language
  • experience working as a teacher

Meritorious:

  • knowledge about deafblindness
  • experience in teaching in a special school
