Special Educator for Adult Education within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transportation.

The Learning Center is a national organization where the Adult Education section provides education for the clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. At each prison in the country and some remand facilities, there is one or more Learning Centers where teachers instruct at basic and upper secondary levels, corresponding to municipal adult education, as well as Swedish language education for immigrants. Adult education is nationally cohesive and organized so that studies function regardless of which facility a client comes to and even if they are transferred during their studies.

You will be located at the Regional Office in Örebro.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a special educator in Adult Education within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you will operate within the principal's area based on a national assignment. Together with special educators in other principal areas, you form a national special educator group. The group develops pedagogical methods within Adult Education and drives school development issues within the framework of systematic quality work.

Within the principal area, you will work closely with the principal on school development, follow-up, and evaluation. You are well acquainted with the learning and teaching environments within the principal area. In your role, you will also collaborate with various professional groups, both within and outside the authority.

You will drive the work of adapting the learning environment and teaching. You have a guiding role towards educational staff and design arrangements for adaptations at the Learning Center together with them. You monitor and follow up on students' needs for adaptations through observations and conversations with educational staff and students.

QUALIFICATIONS

In your role as a special educator, you are a skilled educator with the will and ability to motivate, inspire, and lead students to achieve their goals. You are clear and engaged in your work and have a good ability to create structure and systematics. The work is carried out both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues, which is why good collaboration and initiative skills are important qualities, as well as the ability to work independently.

You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We are looking for someone who has:

• A degree in special education
• The ability to express oneself well in spoken and written Swedish
• Good computer skills and experience working with digital support systems

It is an advantage if you have:

• Experience in adult education
• Experience working as a special educator
• Experience in systematic quality work
• Experience in remote supervision
• Experience in special educational assessments and mapping
• Experience and knowledge of compensatory aids
