All students have the right to a school that allows them to develop according to their own conditions. SPSM operates schools on behalf of the state. We provide students with a learning environment that enables participation, learning, and development. We offer meaningful, stimulating, and important pedagogical work at our schools.
Birgittaskolan in Örebro offers bilingual education in a sign language environment for students from preschool to grade 10. Our students receive instruction in both Swedish sign language and written Swedish. We provide accommodation for students who cannot commute to school every day.
Birgittaskolan is a state special school for students who are deaf or have hearing impairments. The school is located in Örebro and accepts students from Dalarna, Södermanland, Värmland, Västmanland, Örebro, and Östergötland counties.
We provide our students with an environment that allows for participation and development. Everyone can engage in social interactions, feel a sense of belonging, and develop as individuals in a bilingual education in a sign language environment.
At Birgittaskolan, we have excellent access to various professionals in our student health team and digital learning tools in a well-equipped IT environment.
We have about 100 employees working at the school or in our student accommodations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of a teaching assistant places high demands on your ability to be attentive and flexible. You should be able to meet students in various situations and provide a helping hand during their school day and leisure time. Complex and challenging situations may arise where your calm demeanor as a teaching assistant provides the student with a safe response.
As a teaching assistant, you will be part of a team with teachers, and together you will plan the students' school days, which may involve instruction being conducted outside the school premises.
This role may also include duties at Åsbackaskolan, which is located at the same site as Birgittaskolan.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who has:
- education from the child and youth program, assistant training, or other equivalent qualifications.
- education and/or experience working with students with neuropsychiatric disabilities, low-arousal responses, intellectual disabilities.
- experience with SPSM's target group.
- experience in meeting students with various disabilities in your daily work.
A prerequisite for you to work with us is that you can communicate in Swedish sign language, as our sign language environment is very important.
You should be familiar with the commonly used programs in schools.
It is an advantage if you have:
- experience collaborating and being a complement in a team.
- a solution-focused approach that is also engaging, guiding, and motivating.
- experience working in public sector organizations.
The school also has student accommodation for certain students, thus requiring collaboration with both accommodation staff and other professionals related to the student's school day.
We have access to interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, so experience and knowledge in handling such tools are advantageous.

OTHER
The position is a temporary contract.
A criminal record extract must be presented before employment.
