The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transportation.

The Umeå operational area includes the closed prison Umeå, the open prison Sörbyn, and the detention center Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity expansion, and there is a lot happening in the operational area both in terms of renovations and new constructions. The largest professional group is prison officers, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. At the Sörbyn prison, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry, crop cultivation, textiles, etc. The Sörbyn prison is an agricultural facility with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At the Umeå prison, inmates are engaged in wood/industry, kitchen, learning centers, and treatment programs. The Umeå prison and detention center are about a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, and the Sörbyn prison is only accessible by car. Staff parking is available at all units.
