Subject Description

The subject of English is linguistically and literary oriented with degree rights at all levels including doctoral education. In addition to independent courses, the subject is part of various educational programs at the institution, such as Language and Intercultural Communication, the Subject Teacher Program, and the Nordic Master's Program for Language Teachers. The subject offers both campus courses and online courses and aims to expand online teaching and blended learning within campus courses. Research in English is primarily conducted within linguistics and literary studies. Furthermore, the subject's research also falls within the institution's interdisciplinary research areas.

Job Responsibilities

The position includes teaching, supervision, and examination in English focusing on linguistics and academic communication in both spoken and written forms at the undergraduate and advanced levels, on campus and online, within independent courses as well as within the Subject Teacher Program and the Language and Intercultural Communication program. Teaching within the Subject Teacher Program also involves visits and seminars related to practical training. Teaching responsibilities also include supervision, seminars, course responsibility, course administration, and course development. Teaching in the institution's other interdisciplinary courses and programs may also be relevant, along with administrative tasks. The language of instruction is English, but the subject also has contrastive courses, making good knowledge of Swedish a requirement from the start of employment.

The majority of the work will be performed at the University of Gothenburg, and the holder of the position is expected to actively and constructively participate in the work of the teaching team and also in the institution's development and work environment efforts, which includes participation in workplace meetings and other internal meetings and conferences.
