About the job

Are you a person with the right spark, both feet on the ground, and your heart in the right place? Do you want to help people in your hometown feel safe in their daily lives? Then the role of a volunteer firefighter (rescue worker) might be for you.

As a volunteer firefighter, you become part of a strong community and an important resource for your local community. You are also an asset in the safety work at your workplace. You will be dispatched to fires, traffic accidents, and other emergencies where life, health, or property may be at risk. You may be called to events both in the local area and throughout the county. You will undergo relevant training that provides you with the right conditions to carry out the mission safely and securely.

Your tasks

• Work in an emergency response team
• Participate in training and exercise activities
• Perform basic maintenance of equipment and vehicles

The work often takes place under stressful conditions and requires good teamwork skills, social competence, and the ability to take initiative. You should be able to work both independently and together with others.

As a volunteer firefighter, you have no standby duty – you choose whether you can respond to an alarm. The assignment can be combined with work, family, and leisure. When an alarm goes off, you head to the fire station in Karungi and leave from there with your colleagues to the accident site. You will receive compensation for all alarms you participate in and are insured during the intervention time.

Your profile

To become a volunteer firefighter with us, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Live near the fire station in Karungi
• Have good vision and hearing
• Have good physical condition
• Have a driver's license, at least category B (and be prepared to obtain category C)
• Be able to swim
