We need more firefighters for our four shift teams. At Gällivare Fire Department, you will work as one of 5 team members in a small organization. We have a large geographical area to manage, ranging from mines to mountains and vast forested hills. Most of the municipality's residents live in Gällivare town, where our full-time station is centrally located. In our villages, we have five rescue wards that assist us by being first on the scene and providing initial help. We handle about 300 alarms per year. We collaborate with neighboring municipalities and the industrial fire brigades in the area. Job Responsibilities

As a firefighter with us, we want you to engage in our various operational areas based on your interest and suitability. You will work with accident prevention activities such as supervision, information, and training, so we want you to be good at talking to people and building trust. When the alarm goes off, you are one of us who must handle the incident as quickly as possible in a professional and efficient manner. To do this, we need to practice and maintain our vehicles and equipment. We work shifts with work every other weekend.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has the interest, will, and ability to help others. You need to demonstrate judgment and act calmly, steadily, and controlled in pressured situations. The profession requires practical, physical, and social skills. It is important that you have a positive attitude, are a good teammate, and can also work independently. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability. Ability to work at heights and not have a tendency for claustrophobia. Before employment, interviews and job-related physical tests will be conducted.

  • Driver's license at least B
  • Approved treadmill test according to AFS 2007:7 (not older than 3 months) must be attached to the application.
  • Good swimming ability with at least a Gold Badge certificate must be attached to the application
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
  • Within the framework of the national minority language law, Gällivare municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is an advantage when applying for employment in Gällivare municipality.

Meritorious

  • Education in Accident Prevention (SMO)
  • Grib training
  • Work experience as a firefighter
  • Driving license category C, CE
  • First aid training for emergency care, chainsaw certificate, other relevant vocational training.

Working Hours/Duration

Full-time permanent, 6-month probationary period applies

Monthly salary, we apply individual salary setting – please indicate your salary expectations in the application.

With your application, we would like to receive a CV and a personal letter. We also want a treadmill test (not older than 3 months) and a Gold Badge certificate with a passing result. Original documents will be provided upon request. Interviews may be conducted on an ongoing basis.

Start date: 2026-03-16 or by agreement, preferably earlier.
