Description

We are looking for a communicator for a project position in the communications department who can help us develop our work with crisis and preparedness communication.

Karlstad Municipality is in the midst of an intensive effort to build up civil defense, which requires significant communication efforts. The communications department has a primary responsibility for coordinating the group-wide work on crisis communication and psychological defense, which means ensuring that all residents receive crisis and preparedness information, strengthening the will to defend, and managing disinformation and undue information influence.

The position is full-time for one year, with the possibility of extension if we receive continued funding. We would like you to be on-site from May 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

You will be an important part of making information about preparedness clear and accessible to both employees and residents. A communication strategy has been developed, and you will work closely with other communicators in the group. The work involves planning and producing content for various channels, designing and assisting in exercises, and developing the municipality's further communication network to help us reach hard-to-reach target groups. You will also support communication efforts regarding safety points and population protection.

You will work with texts for newspapers, printed materials, websites, and social media, as well as images and short films. You also need to have good collaboration skills and enjoy being part of a team. You may be part of the municipality's crisis management team.

Qualifications

You need to have a post-secondary education in communication and media, and we prefer that you have previous experience in crisis and preparedness communication. It is important that you are skilled in expressing yourself verbally and in writing, and that you have a B driver's license. You are a good writer, have experience working with target group-adapted content across various channels, and can handle Adobe Suite software. You need to be flexible, solution-oriented, and enjoy working at a fast pace at times.
