Project Manager for Climate-Smart Urban Development

Do you want to help shape how Eskilstuna develops in a more climate-smart direction? We are now looking for a project manager who wants to drive the work with climate-efficient urban development processes. The position is partially funded by EU funds and extends until September 2029.

You will be part of the strategic planning unit at the Urban Development Administration, where we work closely with both politics and operations to create long-term sustainable living environments. Here, 16 colleagues collaborate with broad expertise in planning, architecture, landscape, traffic, ecology, and center development. Together, we drive development forward and make a real difference in the municipality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will lead and coordinate the work of integrating the municipality's climate goals and climate requirements throughout urban development, from comprehensive planning and detailed plans to land allocations, development agreements, building permits, construction, facilities, and operations. You will drive the assignment from start to finish and ensure direction, pace, and quality. This is a cross-organizational effort that involves all municipal administrations and municipal companies.

Each operation has its responsibility, but you will keep the whole together and ensure that the climate goals are clear, measurable, and consistently applied at different stages of the process. You will analyze and propose improvements in working methods and governance. The urban development process is complex. Based on this understanding, you will support managers and employees with knowledge, tools, and process support.

You will contribute to building knowledge and engagement around climate considerations, primarily internally but also in collaboration with external actors. You will initiate competency development, follow up, and analyze how to implement climate considerations in practice. By developing common materials and follow-up that contribute to reduced climate impact, you strengthen Eskilstuna Municipality's implementation of the strategy for sustainable urban development.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with experience in project or process management where you have led work across organizational boundaries and created engagement in complex issues. You have a university degree related to urban development, sustainability, or a similar field and a good understanding of the various parts of the urban development process. It is an advantage if you have worked in a municipal organization and if you have experience with EU/ERDF projects. You feel comfortable leading meetings and workshops and have the ability to make complex issues understandable and relevant to others. As a person, you are collaborative, driven, and solution-oriented with a structured approach and an ability to see the big picture.
