HR Generalist at Uppsala University
As an HR Generalist, you will be part of an administrative unit shared by the Department of Sociology and the Department of Social Work, providing qualified support to core operations in the areas of finance, HR, research and management support, and educational administration.
The unit currently consists of nine employees and is characterized by close collaboration, high service orientation, and a broad skill set.
Job Responsibilities
In the role of HR Generalist, you will work broadly within the entire HR field. Your responsibilities include:
- Competence supply, including advising managers, process support, and advertising.
- Personnel administration, such as initiating, following up, and concluding employment, handling notifications/layoffs, and administering hourly compensation, one-time payments, and various types of statements and certificates.
- Interpretation and application of labor law, applicable laws, collective agreements, and government regulations regarding employment conditions.
- Monitoring of absences and sick leave, including support in rehabilitation cases. Occupational health and conflict management, where you assist managers with advice on inappropriate behavior, collaboration difficulties, or other workplace-related issues.
- Contact with other authorities and internal functions, as well as handling questions related to international assignments.
- Consultative support to managers and employees on personnel issues of both operational and strategic nature.
You will independently handle, investigate, and drive HR-related matters, but also collaborate closely with colleagues in the administrative unit when needed. A large part of the work takes place in direct dialogue with managers and employees in the organization, which requires good service ability, flexibility, and confidence in the role. Since many employees are international, communication occurs in both Swedish and English.
Together with your colleagues, you will contribute to developing work routines, strengthening internal processes, and creating a good working environment – both within the administrative unit and at the institutions at large.
The work is varied and stimulating, with elements of both ongoing administration and long-term development of the personnel administrative operations.

- 3-year academic education in HR or education/experience deemed equivalent.
- Experience in contract interpretation, labor law issues, and occupational health issues.
- Very good communicative and pedagogical skills in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.
