Recreation Leader for Youth Activities in Tanum Municipality

We are looking for someone who wants to help drive and develop our youth activities – a program that stimulates activity, creativity, and personal engagement.

Our recreation leaders believe in the power of youth, the importance of relationships, and in a professional youth work where safety and participation are always in focus.

About the Program

We offer open, drug-free, and safe meeting places where recreation leaders are close to the youth – in conversations, in laughter, in what is challenging, and in what is growing. We work to create environments where young people feel seen, included, and significant.

In the municipality, there are youth centers in Tanumshede, Bullaren, and Hamburgsund, as well as a motor yard in Hamburgsund. We also have a mobile youth center under development. The youth centers in Hamburgsund and Tanum are located near the secondary schools, and the target group is mainly youth in grade 6 and secondary and high school age. During school breaks, we also work with younger groups.

The overall goal of the program is to strengthen the personal and social development of young people. We work from a clear value base based on human rights, equal value for all, and a norm-critical and inclusive approach. Through presence and an active outreach approach, we capture ideas, needs, and initiatives – and make them possible.

We are part of the KEKS network (Quality and Competence in Collaboration) and work with a strong focus on participation and influence, where the voices of young people are given real space.

The working hours are mainly scheduled for afternoons and evenings, as well as some weekends.

Job Responsibilities

As a recreation leader with us, you will:

• Plan, implement, and follow up on recreational activities for children and youth
• Document daily operations
• Create safe, inclusive, and accessible meeting places
• Strengthen youth participation, influence, and their own initiatives
• Work on relationship-building and preventive measures
• Collaborate with colleagues, guardians, schools, associations, and other community actors
• Contribute to a gender equality, children's rights, and safety perspective in all activities

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a recreation leader education or a university degree in social work, behavioral science, pedagogy, or another education that the employer deems equivalent
• Has a good ability to create trusting relationships and build safe contexts
• Is responsible, attentive, and confident in your professional role
• Has good collaboration skills but can also work independently
• Is flexible and can work in different locations in the municipality
• Is proactive and sees opportunities to reach and engage young people

Meritorious

• Experience working with youth aged 13–19, especially in open recreational activities
• Experience in outreach or preventive youth work
• Experience collaborating with associations or civil society
• Knowledge of norm criticism, inclusion, and young people's rights
• A coaching approach and experience supporting young people in developing their own initiatives, strengthening their self-esteem, and taking responsibility
• Special interests or areas of expertise that can strengthen the program, e.g., motor skills, technology, culture, music, creativity, sports, media, or gaming
