Workplace Description

As an economist, you will belong to the office at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund (IKVL) within the Faculty of Medicine.

The office is responsible for providing professional support in areas of expertise related to finance, HR issues, administration, and communication. Currently, 14 employees work in the office located at the Biomedical Center – BMC, in Lund. The department employs approximately 470 staff members across categories such as teachers, researchers, doctoral students, and technical-administrative personnel. We are now looking for a service-oriented, driven, and self-sufficient economist for a 100% permanent position with a desired start date of 2026-05-01 or by agreement, who will provide qualified support to the department's managers and employees in finance and procurement.

Job Responsibilities

As an economist at the IKVL office, you will have a central and varied role where you are responsible for the finances of several research groups and departments. You support department heads, research group leaders, and researchers in financial matters. You work closely with the office's economists, HR partners, and administrators, as well as research administrators in the operations. By supporting, informing, and collaborating with department heads, research group leaders, and researchers in financial matters, you will gain a broad network within the department and a good understanding of the operations.

Your main job responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing operations, preparing budgets, forecasts, follow-up, and year-end work
  • Providing qualified support in financial matters
  • Project accounting
  • Managing and providing support in procurement and purchasing issues according to applicable regulations, as well as developing the process in the area
  • Ongoing financial work, e.g., invoicing

Other tasks within finance and administration may also occur.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for the position:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics or equivalent academic education that meets the requirements for a Bachelor's degree in economics.
  • Several years of experience in independent financial and accounting work, both operationally and strategically.
  • Experience with year-end and budget work.
  • Good system familiarity and experience working in various systems.
  • Proficient user of MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English in spoken and written form.
  • An analytical and problem-solving approach.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities, and you should be able to work independently, be structured, have a good ability to plan your work, and take initiative. You must also appreciate working in a team with administrators and researchers. The role of economist at the office is consultative and largely involves providing advice and support to department heads, research group leaders, and researchers, which requires good communication skills, a service-oriented mindset, and the ability to explain finance to non-economists.

Meritorious:

  • Previous experience in public sector
  • Experience with project accounting
  • Experience with EU-funded research projects
  • Previous experience and knowledge in purchasing and procurement
  • Previous experience with administrative systems, such as Raindance, Primula, Lupin/Proceedo, Kuben, and EOS follow-up, etc.

Other

The position is a permanent employment of 100%. Start date 2026-05-01 or by agreement. A probationary period will apply. We handle the selection process continuously, and tests or work samples may be included during the process.

The Department of Clinical Sciences in Lund (IKVL) is one of six departments at the Faculty of Medicine. This is to promote clinical and experimental translational research, development, and education.

The Faculty of Medicine is an operational area within Lund University, responsible for education and research in medicine, care, and health. Education takes place in close collaboration with healthcare and is well anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. The faculty's research spans a wide field within experimental basic research, patient-centered clinical research, and health science research.
