At SMHI, we develop advanced solutions to monitor and understand air quality – in Sweden and globally.

We are now looking for someone who wants to combine technology, coordination, and customer dialogue in a role with significant social responsibility.

About air quality at SMHI

Within SMHI's area of operation for Air Quality, we develop technically advanced systems and models for evaluation, monitoring, and forecasting of air quality in Sweden and globally. Our solutions are used, among other things, to:

  • monitor and analyze air quality in our cities
  • produce Sweden's official emission statistics
  • model air quality nationally and internationally

We work both with assignments for authorities and commercial actors, driving and participating in research projects aimed at improving the environment and health.

About the position

In this role, you will be responsible for the development and coordination of selected services within air quality. You will contribute to prioritizing development efforts, identifying new needs, and ensuring that our solutions meet both the business and customer requirements over time.

The role also involves driving projects from planning to implementation and follow-up. You combine strategic responsibility with operational work and actively contribute to the group's technical assignments.

This includes:

  • driving and coordinating technically oriented projects
  • writing and ensuring the quality of reports as well as handling quotes and contract dialogues
  • planning and conducting workshops and training sessions
  • developing and maintaining customer relationships and representing SMHI in national and international contexts
  • contributing to structure and collaboration within and between teams

The air quality group is a versatile workplace with varied workdays and opportunities to develop both broadly and deeply. We value a culture where we support each other and take joint responsibility for our deliveries.

About you

We are looking for a senior employee with at least five years of relevant experience and accustomed to working independently with complex tasks. You have experience in technical project management, team leadership, or equivalent, preferably with a background in modeling and/or system development. You thrive in a role where you contribute both operationally and strategically to the development of the organization.

Requirements:

  • Academic education in technical physics, natural sciences, civil engineering, or other education that SMHI assesses as equivalent
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and good knowledge of English, both spoken and written

Meritorious:

  • Subject matter expertise or research in air quality or related fields
  • Ability to structure, plan, and drive assignments in collaboration with multiple actors
  • System development and programming skills with scientific application
  • Good experience working with large data sets, Linux environments, and relational databases
  • Competence in financial follow-up, quote preparation, and customer dialogue
  • Experience in international collaboration

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. You are confident in your role, have good judgment, and a holistic perspective. With analytical skills and clear communication, you build trusting relationships and translate complex issues into practical solutions.
