Research Engineer in Cyber Facility Technology

The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defence and security to support Sweden's military and civil defence. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defence, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defence, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defence capability.

About the Position

At FOI in Linköping, there is one of Europe's first and largest cyber facilities – a simulation facility where IT and OT environments are integrated into various cybersecurity scenarios. The purpose is to provide a controlled environment for cyber exercises, experimental research on cyber threats, and evaluation of extensive technical systems.

As a researcher with us, you will work at the forefront of technology. You will support future technical choices by investigating alternative solutions and exploring applications and innovative uses of new technology that can benefit the users of the cyber facility. You will have the opportunity to contribute throughout the entire chain from requirements gathering and prototype development, for both internal and external stakeholders, to sharp implementation. You will work closely with our cyber defence researchers to develop and execute scenarios and applications for experiments and exercises.

About the Unit

You will be part of the Cyber Facility Technology unit, which belongs to Cyber Defence and Command Technology. The operation aims to develop the Crate platform, a framework and infrastructure for cyber facilities. Research and application focus on technologies and infrastructure with a strong emphasis on automation. The unit also instantiates, operates, and manages instances of Crate used for exercises, trials, and experiments.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a PhD in computer engineering or information technology, or has otherwise acquired skills that FOI assesses as equivalent
  • good knowledge of Swedish

  • Experience working in and with simulation environments

The position is a permanent employment that may start with a six-month probationary period.
