The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical institution with about 250 employees and over 900 affiliated individuals through the Academic Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in various areas. The current research is conducted in the neurology section, closely linked to the clinical operations at the Academic Hospital.

We are looking for a research assistant for the research group working on the disease normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). NPH is an increasingly recognized neurological disease that causes gait problems and memory disturbances, affecting 1–2% of individuals of retirement age. The goal of the studies is to develop biomarkers, both radiologically and biochemically, that can be used to diagnose NPH, to better identify patients who would benefit from shunt surgery, and to better monitor the progression of the disease.

Responsibilities

You will conduct research visits with patients and study participants, where you will independently perform tests of gait, balance, and cognition. You will work with electronic databases and assist in the production of scientific manuscripts.

Qualifications

To be employed as an assistant, it is required that you are admitted to undergraduate or advanced level education. We primarily seek a student from the medical program or another program within the Faculty of Medicine or the Faculty of Pharmacy at Uppsala University. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. We want you to be a person who collaborates easily, is structured, meticulous, and has high integrity as the work involves handling sensitive information. Good knowledge of Swedish and English is required, as well as a good ability to work in various data systems.

Desirable/meritorious

• Completed and approved independent work in the medical program
• Approved neurology course in the medical program
• Experience and skill in statistical programs

About the position

The position is temporary according to HF 5 chap § 12. The extent is 25–50% according to agreement. Start date according to agreement. Location: Uppsala.
