Uppsala University hereby announces a permanent position as

Professor in Peace and Conflict Studies

at the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies

The Department of Peace and Conflict Studies is one of the world’s leading research environments in peace and conflict studies, with nearly forty teachers and researchers working at the forefront of issues related to political violence and peace.

It is a dynamic and international academic environment with approximately 90 employees and 300–400 students from around the world. More information about the department can be found here: www.pcr.uu.se (http://www.pcr.uu.se).

The department is looking for an internationally recognized researcher who is interested in contributing to the further development of the department's strong research and teaching environment.

The field of peace and conflict studies is the multidisciplinary study of the causes, dynamics, and resolution of violent conflicts and peace. Education and research at the department are problem-driven, focusing on explaining empirical phenomena and their patterns, thereby integrating theory, methods, and empirical research.

Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for research and education at the doctoral level within the subject area and its development. Teaching and supervision at all levels of education. Much of the teaching and supervision, as well as the scientific discourse at the department, is conducted in English.

Independent research. The faculty's ambition is that 50 percent of the working time should consist of independent research. In addition, there is an opportunity for a paid sabbatical term, currently every sixth year.

The appointee is expected to participate in, plan, and lead research projects (including applications for research funding) and engage in dialogue about research and development in the field of peace and conflict studies with actors outside academia. Administrative tasks, including leadership roles at the departmental and other levels within Uppsala University, may also occur.
