Job Advertisement: Teaching Assistant at the Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Uppsala University was founded in 1947 and is the oldest sociology department in Sweden. The department offers undergraduate and graduate education in sociology. Undergraduate education is also provided in social psychology and sociology with a focus on work, organization, and personnel.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching in the course Social Conditions and Social Problems I and the course Work and Organization. The teaching primarily consists of leading and facilitating seminar discussions. Some administrative work may occur. Planning of the teaching is done in consultation with the course responsible and teaching staff.

Qualifications

  • To be employed as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that the applicant is admitted to education at the undergraduate or advanced level.
  • Good knowledge of classical and modern sociological theory and method is a requirement for employment, for example through previous studies.
  • Very good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written, are a requirement for employment since the teaching is conducted in Swedish.

The applicant should also possess the personal qualities required to perform the job well. Such personal qualities include flexibility, good collaboration skills, good communication skills, good reflective ability, and a sense of responsibility. Since the work will be conducted in close collaboration with the course responsible teacher and other teaching staff, we place great importance on collaboration skills and a willingness to support colleagues and others involved. Furthermore, it is crucial to have the ability to prioritize tasks based on the organization's timelines and deadlines.

Desirable/meritorious

  • Previous experience of leading seminars in teaching contexts at university level is meritorious.
  • Previous experience of teaching in courses on social conditions and social problems as well as courses on work and organization is particularly meritorious.
  • Particularly meritorious is good knowledge and skills in work sociology or organizational theory.

About the Employment

The employment is temporary according to HF 5 chap § 12, approximately 2.5 months. The extent is 19%. Start date is March 24. Location: Uppsala
