The Department of Economics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences, with approximately 100 employees from a dozen countries.

Annually, around 1,000 students participate in one of our courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The research focus is on labor market economics, macroeconomics, and public economics. Researchers at the department are often engaged as experts in public inquiries and in the media, and collaborate in many ways with the surrounding society.

Job Responsibilities

The tasks consist of research together with other participants in the interdisciplinary research environment “AI, Structural Change and the Future of Work” (http://www.AISCAF.se (http://www.AISCAF.se)), part of WASP-HS:

The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanity and Society (WASP-HS) is a national research program in Sweden. The vision of WASP-HS is to promote new, interdisciplinary knowledge within the humanities and social sciences about AI and autonomous systems and their impact on human and societal development. WASP-HS enables groundbreaking research, expertise, and capacity building within the humanities and social sciences.

Additionally, teaching corresponding to a maximum of 20% of the position is included.

Qualifications

A PhD in economics or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a PhD in economics. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preference should be given to those who have obtained their degree no more than three years ago. When calculating the three-year time frame, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or trust assignments within trade unions, etc.

Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is a requirement.

Desirable/meritorious qualifications

Competence and experience related to the issues within the project are meritorious. Experience with relevant microeconometric methods and analyses of administrative data, or similar, is meritorious. Particular weight will be placed on an assessment of how well the applicant's methodological skills can complement the existing research group.

The assessment of applications is primarily based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific excellence. Greater emphasis is placed on the quality of each individual scientific work than on the quantity of publications.

About the Position

The position is temporary for two years with the possibility of extension for one year. The extent is full-time. Start date is September 1, 2026, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
