University Lecturer in Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian 100%

The Department of Modern Languages has approximately 65 employees engaged in research and education at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels in a variety of languages and literatures.

We educate around 3,000 students each year across our more than 150 courses. In most of our languages, we conduct teaching and research in both linguistics and literary studies. Within the subject area of Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, and Slavic languages, courses are offered in language proficiency, linguistics, and literary studies. The department also provides teacher training in Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian. The courses are offered as standalone courses and as part of the Master's program in languages. Doctoral education is provided in Slavic languages, focusing on linguistics or literary studies.

Job Responsibilities:

Teaching, supervision, and examination at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, as well as research and administration. Teaching also includes course responsibility and course administration. The teaching, which is primarily IT-based, may include components focused on language proficiency, translation, linguistics, literary studies, and culture, as well as instruction for the target group of native language teachers. Evening teaching may occur. Job responsibilities also include actively applying for external research funding and keeping up with developments in the field.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer, one must have obtained a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific competence and have demonstrated pedagogical skill.

A prerequisite for pedagogical skill to be considered is completion of relevant higher education pedagogical training, comprising at least ten weeks, or equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the higher education pedagogical training can be completed during the first two years of employment.

The ability to teach in Swedish and English, as well as Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian, is a requirement.

It is required that the scientific competence, pedagogical skill, and professional competence are relevant to the subject matter of the position and the job responsibilities included in the employment. The applicant should possess the personal qualities necessary to perform the position well. Such personal qualities include flexibility, good collaborative skills, and a sense of responsibility.

Assessment Criteria

In the selection among eligible applicants, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical skills.

About the Position:

The position is a permanent employment. A probationary period may apply. The successful candidate is expected to have their primary working hours located at the department in Uppsala. Start date is 2026-08-15 or by agreement.
