PhD Position at the National Centre for Women's Peace
Are you interested in women's health and gender-based violence? We are now recruiting a PhD candidate who is interested in conducting research within the National Centre for Women's Peace (NCK) and an interdisciplinary team at the Department of Women's and Children's Health (KBH) conducting experimental studies.

The National Centre for Women's Peace (NCK) at Uppsala University works on behalf of the government to raise awareness at the national level about men's violence against women, honor-related violence and oppression, as well as violence in same-sex relationships.
About the Project:
The PhD project will be part of a research study on the effects of traumatic brain injury in women exposed to intimate partner violence and head trauma. It will investigate how brain injuries caused by intimate partner violence affect women's cognitive, mental, neurological, and reproductive health. Through MRI of the brain, hormonal analyses, and psychological tests, women who have suffered brain injuries will be compared with women who have experienced other types of violence.
Responsibilities
As a PhD candidate in the project, you will be involved in data collection through interviews, conducting tests, assisting with imaging examinations, and analyzing data with the help of your supervisors in the project. The PhD candidate will belong to both NCK's research group on Gender-Based Violence and Health and the research group in Neuropsychopharmacology at KBH.
The doctoral education comprises four years of full-time studies. Other duties at the department related to education and administrative work may occur (max 20%) which extends the employment by the corresponding time.
Qualifications
Eligible for the PhD position is someone who has:
- Completed a nursing or medical degree
- Completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level including an independent project of at least 15 higher education credits, or
- Acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way.
In addition to the formal requirements, we envision that the PhD candidate has:
- Research interest in the area of gender-based violence and support for victims of violence
- Clinical experience in patient work
- Completed courses in quantitative research methods
- Good ability to work independently as well as demonstrated ability to collaborate and interact both scientifically and with the surrounding community
- Responsible, collaborative, and solution-focused, with the ability to work independently and proactively.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and coordinate multiple parallel workflows.
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude; ability to work with clinical teams and vulnerable participants.
Desirable/meritorious otherwise
- Education or work related to men's violence against women, intimate partner violence, or honor-related violence and oppression
- Good written and oral skills in Swedish
- Education in structured psychiatric interviews or previous clinical research experience.
- Experience or willingness to gain practical experience in conducting experimental sessions with humans (brain imaging) or screening and psychometric assessments.
- Experience or willingness to learn data entry and common analysis environments as well as knowledge of GDPR and data protection principles.
Great importance will be placed on personal suitability regarding who is assessed to have the best conditions to develop and implement the planned project.
