Your institutional placement will be determined during the appointment process. You will indicate one or more preferred institutions as part of the application procedure.

Subject Area

We welcome you who research and teach in biology in a broad sense. You will contribute to the development of research and teaching at one of the three institutions described above.

Responsibilities

You will work with:

• Teaching: Course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of PhD students.
• Research: Leading your research group's work and actively applying for and obtaining external research grants.
• Administration: Participating in the general academic work at the department, including serving on committees and participating in the evaluation and development of teaching and research tasks.
• Keeping yourself updated in your subject area and following societal developments that are relevant to your work at Uppsala University.

In the selection among qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed primarily on both scientific and pedagogical skills, with particular emphasis on scientific competence.

All qualifications must be documented so that both quality and scope can be assessed.

When the university hires new teachers, applicants will be selected based on a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skills, judged to have the best conditions to carry out and develop the relevant tasks and contribute to a positive development of the activities.

Parental leave, part-time work due to child care, union duties, military service, or similar will be considered as work experience and should be stated in the CV.

Employment Period

The position as Assistant Professor is limited to a maximum of six years and aims for qualification for a teaching position with higher eligibility requirements. During the employment, there is an opportunity to apply for promotion to Associate Professor. If the requirements are met and suitability is assessed, the employee will be promoted to a permanent position as Associate Professor.
