Synthetic Bone Grafts – Mechanisms and Clinical Use

Description:
We are looking for an engaged and motivated PhD student who wants to work on the project Synthetic Bone Grafts – Mechanisms and Clinical Use.
The project involves characterizing the tissue response to ceramic biomaterials, synthetic bone grafts, materials that serve as scaffolding for bone-forming cells and promote healing of bone tissue. Outcomes of the treatment technique will be studied in clinical materials. The project also has an epidemiological component, where we will describe orthopedic injuries through the analysis of insurance data.
The work is conducted at the small animal department, Department of Clinical Sciences, SLU. The implementation involves contact with pet owners and clinicians. Unusual working hours may occur. Teaching may also be included in the position.
The position involves conducting doctoral education, planning and executing research projects under supervision. Together with the supervisors, you will collect, process, and present the project's results orally and in writing at relevant conferences and in international scientific journals. Popular science communication of the project is part of the education.
For a doctoral degree, the education must also include at least 30 credits in the form of doctoral courses.
Eligibility/Qualifications:
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a veterinary degree with the right to practice veterinary medicine in Sweden at the time of employment.
- Has a B driver's license.
- Can express themselves well both orally and in writing in Swedish and English.
You are structured, analytical, and proactive. You should have a good ability for independent planning as well as the ability to understand and follow instructions; you are curious, problem-solving, and results-oriented with good collaborative skills. Experience in teaching at the university level is an advantage, as the position for doctoral education is often combined with teaching.
Assessment Criteria:
The assessment will consider:
- motivation and interest in the research project and the applicant's competence.
- clinical experience in the subject is advantageous, as is any commenced or completed specialist training.
- experience in teaching at the university level.
- collaboration skills, administrative experience, and the ability to work independently.
The position will be offered to the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is deemed to have the best conditions to perform the tasks. Great emphasis will therefore be placed on personal qualities and suitability for the project.
