Student Assistant in Molecular Biology

Workplace Description

The position is located at the Biomedical Center (BMC), Faculty of Medicine, Experimental Medical Science, Lund University.

The research group is located at the Biomedical Center (BMC), building C13, Sölvegatan 19 in Lund. The work environment is international and interdisciplinary, focusing on microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. The group consists of researchers, PhD students, and undergraduates, and you will work closely with experienced colleagues in a laboratory setting.

Job Responsibilities

As a student assistant, the tasks may vary, but they should always have a clear connection to your studies.

The tasks in this position include:

  • Working with cloning and plasmid handling,
  • Conducting anaerobic experiments,
  • Contributing to the development of microbiome extraction protocols,
  • Growing and managing microbial cultures,
  • Contributing to general laboratory routines.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a student assistant is someone who is pursuing full-time studies at the university level in Sweden, has completed approved studies corresponding to at least 60 higher education credits, and has not started a doctoral program.

Requirements for the position are that you:

  • Are currently pursuing full-time studies in molecular biology, biology, biotechnology, or equivalent education deemed relevant by the employer,
  • Have basic knowledge in molecular biology and microbiology,
  • Have experience with growing microbiome cultures/DNA extraction (skin, gut),
  • Have laboratory experience in PCR, bacterial cultures, plasmid work, and sterile techniques,
  • Are meticulous, responsible, and have good teamwork skills,
  • Have good knowledge of English in both spoken and written form.

Desirable for the position is that you have:

  • Experience with microbial methods, PCR, and cloning,
  • Previous experience in a research lab.

Other

The position is a fixed-term employment with a start date of 2026-02-20 or by agreement, but no later than 2026-06-07, and involves a scope of 20%.

You will work according to a fixed schedule to be established in agreement between you and the employer. Regulations regarding employment as a student assistant can be found in the Agreement for Student Assistants.
