Research Advisor at Mid Sweden University

Do you want to work closely with the core of research and contribute to creating strong research environments? Do you have your own experience of research at a university or college and know what it takes to write a competitive research grant application? Then the role of Research Advisor at Mid Sweden University could be the next step for you.

At Mid Sweden University's Grants and Innovation Office (GIO), research advisors support the university's researchers throughout the process of external research funding – from strategic orientation in the funding landscape to concrete support in the design of applications. GIO is part of the Department of Research and Educational Support (FUS), where around forty employees with academic backgrounds and specialized expertise work together to strengthen the university's research, innovation, internationalization, pedagogical development, and lifelong learning.

Responsibilities

The research advisors at Mid Sweden University strengthen the university's research environments through strategic advice and active support that leads to increased access to external research funding. We inform and enhance researchers' knowledge on issues related to research funding and also offer active support throughout the application phase.

Specific tasks include:

  • monitoring current calls and trends among national funders (focusing on the Swedish Research Council, Formas, Forte, the Riksbank's Jubilee Fund, the Wallenberg Foundations, Vinnova) as well as international funders (focusing on the EU's framework program for research and innovation, Horizon Europe),
  • disseminating information about calls and trends to the university's researchers, both through common communication channels and through personal contact with individual researchers,
  • organizing workshops and other activities to inform about funding opportunities and offer training in grant writing,
  • supporting researchers throughout the pre-award phase through tailored support – from critical review to active participation in the design of applications,
  • supporting university management in strategic issues regarding research funding and related political developments, with a particular focus on Swedish research councils and the EU's framework program for research and innovation.

The role also includes responsibility for, and great opportunities to influence, the development of Mid Sweden University's Grants Office.

It is an advantage if you:

  • have good knowledge of Sweden's and the EU's research funding landscape,
  • have experience in evaluating research applications,
  • have experience in research advising or research support and in conveying knowledge to researchers,
  • have worked in common application portals, especially Prisma and the EU's Funding & Tenders Portal.

Your Qualities

We place particular emphasis on your personal qualities. The role of research advisor, with many internal and external contacts, places high demands on collaboration skills, communication ability, and relationship building.

To succeed in the role, you are outgoing, have excellent collaboration and communication skills, are curious, and interested in building strong relationships with researchers and university management. You also identify with a supportive role for the university's researchers and research environments.

The role encompasses a wide range of activities and responsibilities and therefore requires the ability to work independently as well as to organize and prioritize your work.
