Employment Type
Fixed-term employment for 6 years, according to Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance, with the possibility of promotion to university lecturer.
Job Description
The position of assistant professor is a merit-based appointment where the holder is given the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and educator.
The duties primarily include research and teaching within undergraduate and graduate education. The position includes teaching 10-30% of a full-time position. The content of the duties, as well as the distribution and extent between research and teaching, may change over time.
The holder of the position is expected to maintain, strengthen, and develop the department's research in MR physics. The applicant's profile and future research direction are expected to complement the existing research competence within the MR physics group.
The holder of the position is expected to collaborate with researchers, hospital physicists, and physicians at Skåne University Hospital (e.g., in Radiation Physics, Oncology, and Imaging and Functional Diagnostics), within the framework of clinically related research projects and clinical trials, as well as in pre-clinical research, e.g., at Lund University Bioimaging Centre (LBIC). Through collaboration with the university hospital and through international grants, access to state-of-the-art equipment is provided, including an upgraded 7 T MRI scanner with new coils (2024), a new 3 T MRI scanner with ultra-strong gradients (2025), a portable low-field MRI scanner (2023), and an MR-linac (2025). This equipment enables a broad research activity.
To support the establishment of the employee's activities, resources equivalent to a doctoral student position will be attached to the appointment. The holder of the position is expected to actively seek funding for their research activities and to play a significant role in the development and management of the research group.
The holder of the position will teach primarily in the hospital physicist program within their area of expertise, as well as have course responsibility and conduct course development. The holder is expected to collaborate with others in the research group to take responsibility for and develop graduate courses in MR physics and related areas (e.g., in non-ionizing radiation) as needed. Supervision of theses and doctoral candidates is included in the position.
Eligibility
Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree or reached equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline for the assistant professorship will be considered. Those who have obtained their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons.
For this position, a doctoral degree in medical radiation physics or a related field is required.
Assessment Criteria
