Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Medical Science

Workplace Description
The position is located at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Experimental Medical Science at the Molecular Neuromodulation division.
The research group works on developing molecular tools and sequencing techniques to map and treat diseases of the central nervous system, such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
Project Description
The project aims to develop new spatial sequencing techniques for studying disease progression in the adult brain. This technique is intended for tissue from the human brain and focuses on analyses with cellular resolution.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
At Lund University, a postdoctoral position should provide opportunities for scientific and pedagogical qualification. Primarily, space is given for qualification in research, but also to some extent for higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may also be included in the job responsibilities.
You will have particular responsibility for the development of the molecular processes underlying the new sequencing technique. You will also be responsible for tissue handling and imaging. An important part will also be the development of new analytical methods where you will be responsible for the development of AI-based image analysis and mapping of gene expression.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:
- strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research.
- pedagogical ability.
- PhD or equivalent foreign degree in Neurobiology. The PhD must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.
- good knowledge in the field of molecular biology, isothermal DNA amplification, spatial sequencing, automated microscopy, and bioinformatics methods for analysis of spatial transcriptomics.
- Personal qualities such as self-driven, persistent, collaborative, initiative-taking, stable, structured, independent, creative, written, analytical, and/or mathematical abilities.
- good experience in English, both spoken and written.
Meritorious for the position are:
- primarily, the applicant who has completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
- knowledge of programming in Python.
The assessment of applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as researchers. Special emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area.
When hiring a postdoctoral researcher, scientific/artistic ability within the subject area will be primarily considered.

About the Position
The position is a fixed-term employment for two years, 100% with a start date of March 1, 2025, or by agreement. Employment at Lund University is conducted in Sweden, so you are expected to perform your work on-site in Lund.
The employment is limited to at least two years, maximum three years according to the collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral researcher (Arbetsgivarverket). A postdoctoral position is intended as an initial step in the career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research competence.
