PhD Student in Food and Meal Science

We are now looking for a PhD student in Food and Meal Science for the project 'Sustainable and Healthy Eating Habits'.

Welcome with your application!

As a PhD student, you will be part of the project 'Attractive, Sustainable and Healthy – the development of future foods', which addresses the societal challenge of sustainable and healthy eating habits. This project is one of two PhD projects that tackle this challenge. The aim of the project is to find new ways to develop future attractive and nutritionally balanced food products based on sustainable, healthy, and innovative raw materials. The project is conducted as part of increasing fiber intake to combat overweight and obesity.

As a PhD student, you will work alongside another PhD student in an interdisciplinary and cross-institutional research environment FOHRK (Food, Health and Retail, Kristianstad) focusing on food, health, and trade. Through collaboration with industry, the public sector, and society, FOHRK drives interdisciplinary initiatives to promote a more sustainable society.

You will also be part of a larger context through the KK Foundation's initiative for future collaborative researchers. You will be part of a national PhD group, where Kristianstad University is one of 22 institutions participating. The KK Foundation organizes mandatory collaboration activities, such as seminars and workshops throughout the PhD period.

In addition to FOHRK, you will also belong to the research environment MEAL – Food and Meals in Everyday Life at Kristianstad University and a PhD group in meal knowledge at Örebro University, Campus Grythyttan link (https://www.oru.se/institutioner/restaurang--och-hotellhogskolan/program-och-kurser/Utbildning_forskarniva/).

Job Responsibilities

As a PhD student, you will participate in the overall activities of the current research project but will also work independently on your own dissertation work, which includes mandatory and elective courses. The work involves research on fibers and how they can be used to create attractive products. Your responsibilities also include oral and written scientific communication of research results. The PhD position consists largely of data collection and analysis as well as publication of scientific articles.

You will be employed and have your workplace at Kristianstad University and be affiliated with the research environments FOHRK and MEAL. Here, you will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary context alongside researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders who share the goal of promoting sustainability and health, providing access to a strong network.

You will be admitted to the doctoral program in meal knowledge at Örebro University. As a PhD student, you will be part of a seminar group with other PhD students. In addition to dissertation work, the doctoral education includes mandatory and elective courses at the doctoral level. The mandatory courses are offered both at Örebro University and other institutions.

There is a possibility that the doctoral education includes institutional service, i.e., teaching and administration, but no more than 20 percent of full-time.
