Probation Officer

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a probation officer, you will be responsible for conditionally released clients and clients sentenced to probation who are under supervision. The probation service is also responsible for intensive supervision with electronic monitoring, known as an electronic tag, and community service. The work within the probation service largely consists of investigative work, conducting risk and needs assessments, and developing plans for implementation. The probation service also works to lead treatment programs for probation clients.

As a probation officer, you will actively participate in the influence work directed at clients, including structured conversations based on CBT, motivating participation in program activities, and assisting in release preparations for clients incarcerated in prison. Your duties will also include conducting personal investigations and providing opinions to the court and suggesting appropriate sanctions.

The temporary position begins with a two-week local introduction.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has good self-awareness. You have a good understanding of how people absorb knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages according to the recipient's conditions. In your professional practice, you have good judgment and integrity. As a probation officer, you need to have good collaboration skills and be able to communicate clearly. You should also have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it.

To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally through your approach. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A high school diploma with final grades.
  • Academic studies, for example, programs with a focus on behavioral sciences, social sciences, or law, social work programs, or other qualifications that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • An academic degree (at least at the bachelor's level), for example, in behavioral science, law, social work, or social sciences, or another academic education combined with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
  • Current and well-rated work experience within corrections, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social work.
  • Current experience in case management.
  • A B driver's license.
  • Relevant language skills.
