Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We Are Hiring!

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding to our operations, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transportation.

The Luleå operational area is the northernmost part of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and includes the Luleå and Haparanda prisons as well as the Luleå remand facility. The largest professional group is prison officers, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. In the prisons, inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or the prison's wood production. You can easily reach the Luleå prison and remand facility by public transport; if you drive, you can park in our staff parking. The Haparanda prison is a five-minute walk from Haparanda station.

Learn more about the Luleå prison's operations on our website: Swedish Prison and Probation Service Luleå (https://www.kriminalvarden.se/kontakt/hitta-och-kontakta/verksamhet/anstalt/lulea/#verksamhet)

We are looking for you who already know that you want to make a difference in the summer of 2026. With us, you will be part of something bigger – our shared mission for a safer society. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis, so submit your application today, and welcome!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a prison officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison are varied and include care, monitoring, searches, and security work, combined with release planning, conversations, and motivational work. Work at the remand facility is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may sometimes be held in remand for long periods without meeting anyone other than the staff, which places special demands on your ability to create structure, safety, and respectful interactions in everyday life.

Working as a prison officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. You will become part of a safe and engaged work community where cooperation, responsibility, and respect are central values.

With us, you get more than just a summer job – you gain experience that strengthens you for the future, regardless of where your career takes you. A summer position with us can lead to continued employment within the authority.
