Are you responsible, flexible, and want to work extra with children, youth, or adults with special needs?
As a respite provider, you will support a child in their home to relieve the guardians. The goal is for parents to be able to do things independently or together with siblings while you, as a respite provider, take care of the child. This means that you temporarily take over the caregiving needs of the child at home or in the local area. A typical assignment usually involves 3-6 hours per week.
A companion means that you work closely with the individual to facilitate participation in community and cultural life for people with significant disabilities. This could involve accompanying the individual to visit friends, train, bowl, swim, have coffee, play mini-golf, or take walks. This should serve as a means to help the individual maintain contact with others and break the isolation that may result from a disability. A typical assignment usually involves 3-6 hours per week.
Being a contact person means being someone’s friend. It is a non-professional support, a fellow human being. According to the LSS Act and the Social Services Act, a person with a disability can apply for a contact person. The contact person provides support and facilitates the individual’s contact with other people, participation in various activities, and promotes inclusion in the community's leisure offerings. The assignments are 8 hours per month. A typical assignment usually involves two meetings a month for four hours each time.
The positions as respite provider and companion are hourly-based. You will work shorter shifts, about 3-6 hours at a time depending on the individual’s wishes. As a contact person, you receive a fixed fee and reimbursement for expenses. The number of hours to be performed is determined by the case manager.
The work is generally performed in the afternoon/evening and on weekends, but there may also be work during daytime weekdays. The job offers great flexibility and works very well to combine with studies or another part-time job. The contact person assignments can be combined with full-time work.
