Here you will work in an environment where you, together with many different competencies, create solutions that truly make a difference.

SMHI's operations involve collecting weather, water, and climate-related data, which we then analyze to create a basis for decision-makers and citizens. Our vision is a vibrant and safer society - through reliable knowledge of weather, water, and climate.

About the Position

The position is part of the IT Development unit. You will be part of one of our development teams that has existed since 2008 and is responsible for several systems/applications. The systems are mission-critical, which requires a high level of professional responsibility in the role of software developer and ensuring both availability and correct functionality.

You will have a close dialogue with both users and other teams, and involvement in interesting tasks is offered where you will have the opportunity to develop both breadth and depth, resulting in a varied workday.

In the position, there is room to develop as a specialist in a technical area within a few years. We are looking for individuals who want to develop their technical skills in the long term and also become a role model and technical mentor to other developers, even outside their team.

About the Team

The team has great freedom and responsibility to choose the technology that is most suitable for its mission. The team includes several roles, but all roles work closely together throughout the development process: from requirements gathering to deployment. The team is fully responsible for the quality of deliveries, production deployment, and management once the various systems and products are operational. Operability is an important perspective as many systems need to function 24/7.

About You

You have a post-secondary education in software development. Alternatively, equivalent work experience that SMHI assesses as comparable. You have good knowledge of both Swedish and English in both spoken and written form. We see that you have work experience in web development in React or ExtJS and several years of work experience in the programming language Java.

In addition to these requirements, we consider it an advantage if you have experience in:

  • working in a Linux environment
  • the programming language Python
  • software development of stable and complex systems with high operational demands
  • relational databases
  • working in version control systems
  • large amounts of data
  • conducting training or demonstrations for users regarding features that you have been involved in developing
  • working according to agile methods with a focus on customer benefit
  • having worked as a Scrum master or team coach

To succeed and thrive in the role of software developer at SMHI, your personal qualities are crucial, and we will place great emphasis on this. You who apply thrive when you get to solve tricky problems and are eager to take initiative to keep the work moving. You take responsibility for both your own delivery and the team's common goals. Through open and supportive collaboration, you contribute to a work environment where others want to be.

You stay technically updated and can explain complex technical issues to others in a pedagogical way. In the role, you support the team in planning and prioritizing technical activities and translate requirements from internal users into sustainable technical solutions.
