About the position

The youth center is a safe and inclusive place for young people to meet, develop, and have fun. We strive to offer a meaningful leisure experience for all our visitors.

You will work in the open youth center activities with children and young people aged 10-16 years. You will work with participation and influence, motivating children and young people to take their own initiatives, develop their interests, and take responsibility for themselves and others. The role also includes being involved in planning, leading, and evaluating activities with the youth.

Examples of tasks:

  • work with children's and young people's participation and influence
  • motivate children and young people to take their own initiatives, develop their interests, and take responsibility for themselves and others
  • create a positive and inclusive atmosphere at the youth center where young people feel welcome and safe
  • lead/organize activities for young people
  • be available to listen, support, and guide young people in need

About the workplace

There are nine youth centers in Örebro, organized under the Culture and Leisure Administration / Open Meeting Places, and one association-driven youth center. The operation has about 50 monthly employed staff and as many part-time employees. In the urban area, we have Kuggens youth center, Norrbygården, Lillåns youth center, Vivallagården, Oxhagens youth center, Varberga youth center, and 52:ans youth center located in Baronbacken. A bit outside Örebro, we also operate Odengården and Glanshammars youth center. We continuously seek staff for part-time positions and open for ongoing applications to all our youth centers, although it may take time before you are contacted as not all youth centers have needs at the same time.

Qualifications

To succeed in this position, it is important that you find it interesting to meet different types of individuals and that you enjoy a flexible work situation. You have a genuine interest in working with our children and young people. The position requires the ability to communicate and collaborate with children/youth, staff, and guardians.

Requirements:

  • completed upper secondary education

Meritorious:

  • driving license-B (manual)
  • youth leader training or other education deemed equivalent by the employer
  • leadership experience in youth activities
  • knowledge of youth cultures and trends

Scope and start date

Employment form: special fixed-term employment

Part-time employment as needed, approximately 5–10 hours per week. Working hours may vary at different centers, but evening work from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM on Fridays is common.

Start date: by agreement

Additional information

Örebro Municipality applies for a criminal record check when working in direct contact with children. Upon agreement of employment, a valid ID must be presented.
