The Swedish Schools Inspectorate works for a school where all children, students, and adult learners receive a good quality education, an equitable education, and knowledge in a stimulating and safe environment. Through our reviews, we play an important and driving role for equity and good educational outcomes in Swedish schools. Within the organization, there is supervision, quality review, and licensing assessment for independent schools. We are located in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Linköping, Lund, and Umeå. The head office with all support functions is located in Stockholm. The new department - the Department for Licensing and School Economics is also located in Stockholm.

A developing workplace with an important mission

The Department for Licensing and School Economics started in May 2024. The department includes units for licensing assessment and financial review. The department is responsible for reviewing applications to start independent schools and assessing the finances of companies that want to start or already operate independent schools. The department is also responsible for a new task of reviewing reported school costs. The department will have a special responsibility for driving the authority's development of case law in the area of independent schools and school economics and creating good conditions to counteract unscrupulous actors in welfare.

We are looking for lawyers who want to work with processing and assessment of cases at the licensing unit.

Job responsibilities

The licensing unit receives a large number of cases each year and assesses applications to start or expand the operations of independent schools, international schools, and more.

You will be part of the licensing assessment unit where you, as an investigator, contribute your expertise as a lawyer. The work involves investigating cases concerning licenses for independent schools, international schools, and individual education providers applying for grading rights. In the assessment, we investigate the conditions for complying with the Education Act and conduct an ownership and management review. As an investigator, you will perform qualified investigative work, which includes gathering, analyzing, and assessing documentation as well as drafting and making decisions.

You will also review decisions within the unit, conduct legal investigations, write opinions, and participate in consultation work, assist other investigators within and outside the unit, convey information internally and externally, and participate in the unit's and authority's development work. Your work will also involve contacts with principals and applicants, the public, and the media.

Qualifications

You have:

  • a law degree
  • at least two years of relevant current experience in legal investigative work and case processing as assessed by the Swedish Schools Inspectorate
  • good ability to express yourself clearly and accurately in speech and writing
  • good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written

It is meritorious to have:

  • current experience from licensing assessment
  • good and current knowledge of ownership and management review
  • notary service
  • experience in supervisory activities

The position
