Environmental and Health Protection Inspector

Our Operations

The Building and Environmental Department primarily works with regulatory activities, service, and advice.

We are responsible for the municipality's supervision and assessment within construction, shoreline protection, sewage, food, as well as environmental and health protection. From next year, the assignment will also include alcohol, tobacco, and over-the-counter medications.

The Health Protection, Alcohol, Food, and Tobacco Unit consists of eight employees who handle applications and notifications and conduct inspections on-site or through document review. We develop supervision through coordination, exchange of experiences, and joint visits based on risk and need.

Your Assignment

As an Environmental and Health Protection Inspector within health protection, you ensure that laws and regulations are followed. You have a regulatory role where you review, assess, and follow up on operations and cases. The work is varied and includes supervision in several areas, with the opportunity to broaden the assignment to include smoke-free environments, food, alcohol, and tobacco supervision.

You work independently with great responsibility but in close collaboration with colleagues. The role is outward-facing and requires good communication skills, legal security, and the ability to make qualified assessments.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Process cases according to the Environmental Code and other relevant legislation
  • Conduct inspections and supervision of businesses and public environments
  • Assess risks and propose measures to prevent nuisances
  • Communicate with businesses, individuals, and authorities
  • Write decisions, orders, and statements, as well as document inspections
  • Contribute to quality and development work and collaboration within the unit

Your Experience

Work Experience

Meritorious:

  • At least 2 years of experience in the environmental, public health, or community building field in a public organization and with regulatory activities.
  • Experience in project management, planning, or coordination.
  • Experience in areas such as food supervision, over-the-counter medications, smoke-free environments, or alcohol and tobacco supervision.

Educational Requirements

Mandatory:

  • At least a three-year university degree in natural sciences, such as environmental science, geoscience, chemistry, or biology.

Meritorious:

  • Trained Environmental and Health Protection Inspector

Knowledge Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Driving license B.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral in Swedish.
  • You have good digital competence and are accustomed to working in various digital systems and tools for document management, communication, and planning.
  • You have good experience and understanding of record-keeping and work in a case management system.
  • Good understanding of regulatory activities and supervision work within the environmental and health protection area or equivalent.

Meritorious:

  • Experience working in a changing and politically governed organization.

Other Relevant Information:

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to identify needs and take initiative to meet changes and challenges proactively.
  • Ability to plan, follow up, and evaluate the work of the organization.
