Description

We are looking for an engaged support educator for the adapted primary school at Ilanda.

The adapted primary school is for children aged 7 to 16 who have an intellectual disability or an acquired brain injury. In the adapted primary school, education is tailored to each student's conditions and needs. Ilandaskolan (https://karlstad.se/forskola-skola-och-utbildning/grundskola/grundskolor/ilandaskolan) serves students in grades 7 to 9. There are two educational activities within the same department; one for students studying subject areas and one for students studying subjects.

Students covered by the Act on Support and Service for Certain Disabled Persons (LSS) may be entitled to short-term supervision before and after school as well as during breaks. Short-term supervision is a continuation of the primary school's after-school activities. Part of the job involves working in short-term supervision, where you help create a stimulating and fun environment before and after the school day ends. Here you will have the opportunity to contribute with creative and meaningful activities that strengthen the children's social development.

The role is an important part of our educational team and involves contributing to students' development and security both during the school day and in short-term supervision.

We are now looking for a support educator who will work during the school day with the group of students studying subject areas, as well as part of the role in short-term supervision.

Are you looking for a varied job that involves being the secure adult in our students' school day and short-term supervision? Then you are the one we are looking for!

Responsibilities

As a support educator, you will be responsible for short-term supervision, implementation plans, and some documentation for the youth, such as setting goals and activities that align with the purpose of short-term supervision.

You will be part of the school day and provide pedagogical support in teaching. Some teaching is included in the assignment. The role involves collaborating with teachers, guardians, and other professionals to create a safe and developing environment for our students. In some cases, the work may involve supporting students with care needs or students who may exhibit challenging behaviors. Many of the students use alternative communication methods such as signs, visual support, and eye tracking. Therefore, it is advantageous to have knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a trained support educator or has a similar education that the employer assesses as equivalent.

As a person, you find it easy to create security and good relationships with both students and colleagues, and you are used to working independently as well as in a team. You are flexible and can quickly switch between different tasks – for example, from providing support to an individual student with special needs to leading an activity for an entire student group. You are attentive to the students' daily form and needs, and can adjust your approach accordingly. Your communicative ability allows you to clearly explain tasks, calm in stressful situations, and collaborate effectively with both colleagues and guardians. You need to be able to express yourself clearly and correctly in writing as part of the job involves establishing and following up on the youth's implementation plan in short-term supervision.

The work can sometimes be both physically and mentally demanding, and it is important that you have the ability to remain calm, create structure, and build trusting relationships. At the same time, you have the opportunity to make a real difference in the students' everyday lives – a mission that both challenges and gives a lot back.

With us, you will be an important part of creating an inclusive and inspiring school environment where every student has the opportunity to develop as far as possible.
