Workplace Description

The City of Stockholm organizes camp activities for children, youth, and young adults with disabilities.

Our camps are located in beautiful natural environments in Norrtälje and Sörmland. Attending camp means for our participants a change of environment, fun outdoor activities, and social interaction with others. For relatives, it provides relief in everyday life. Many of our employees have worked at our camps for a long time and return annually. Working as a camp leader is rewarding and educational, as you contribute to giving our participants a wonderful and memorable holiday filled with joy and relaxation.

We are now looking for staff for our camps during our summer periods between June 12 - August 18. We expect that you can work at least 2 of the periods:

  • Period 1: June 12 - June 27
  • Period 2: June 29 - July 14
  • Period 3: July 16 - July 31 or July 16 - July 27
  • Period 4: August 2 - August 18 or July 29 - August 9

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with others and wants to contribute to creating a meaningful stay for our participants.

Skogstorp and Granhill (Norrtälje, Barnens ö)

Participants with autism and intellectual disabilities come here. Both camps have many emotions, and your task as a camp leader is to support communication and daily living skills (ADL), meet challenging behaviors, and offer activity balance. We use communication aids and always work in a low-arousal manner.

At Skogstorp and Granhill, you need to be secure in your role, handle unforeseen events, and not be afraid to face challenging situations. It is advantageous if you have previously worked with challenging behaviors and/or autism in, for example, schools or other care settings.

Larsbacken (Norrtälje, Barnens Ö)

Children and youth with high-functioning autism come here. We adapt our activities based on the participants' abilities, interests, and needs.

At Larsbacken, you need to be relationship-building and have a holistic view in collaboration with participants and colleagues. It is advantageous if you have worked in other educational settings and have experience with children and youth with neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPF).

Grandungen (Sörmland, Fiskeboda Kursgård)

Children and youth with moderate intellectual disabilities come here. At Grandungen, there is a high pace with many activities and excursions.

At Grandungen, you need to be relationship-building and provide support in communication and ADL. It is advantageous if you have worked in other educational settings.

Björkängen (Sörmland, Fiskeboda Kursgård)

Map to the area

Participants with intellectual disabilities, mobility impairments, and significant care needs come here. At Björkängen, only your imagination limits what can be created. You become the participants' extended arm and provide extensive support in ADL and communication. We use mobility and communication aids and manage daily medication.

Here, you need to be attentive and interested in non-verbal communication. It is advantageous if you have previously worked as a personal assistant and/or have knowledge of cerebral palsy or epilepsy.

We offer

During the first two working days of each period, you will receive a thorough introduction to the job together with your new colleagues. You will learn the camp's routines, working methods, and participate in preparations for the participants' arrival. You will live together with your colleagues in the associated staff accommodation. We work according to a rolling schedule where working hours mainly occur during the day and evening.

Your skills and experiences

To fit the role, you need to be calm, stress-resistant, and have great patience. You communicate pedagogically and can easily adapt to different situations. You find it easy to collaborate and are secure in yourself and in contact with new people. In this recruitment, we place great emphasis on the aforementioned skills, personal suitability, and engagement.

Requirements for all positions:

  • High school education
  • Good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing
  • At least 1 year of work experience or equivalent

Other

To work at camp, you need to present an extract from the criminal record. In the event of a job interview, you should bring this extract to the meeting.

As a camp leader, you will also need to undergo training in safe medication handling. In the event of employment, you must present a valid diploma for completed training before your first working day.

Applications are for winter sports and/or Easter holidays according to the specified dates.
