Food Science

Subject Description

Food science is a subject at the doctoral level focusing on people's interaction with food, studied from an interdisciplinary perspective. The importance of diet in health promotion and disease prevention is central, but aspects such as environment and performance are also addressed. Food science includes studies on, among other things, individuals' and dietitians' behavior, choices, and habits. This can relate to both the meal and the diet as a whole. Learning, change processes, and people's thoughts, attitudes, and perceptions about food are also important in the research. Within food science, fundamental knowledge of food science and food chemistry is crucial for understanding how diet affects human health.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities involve analyzing students' reports and conducting teaching in food science, primarily focusing on sensory analysis within the food and leadership program. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English.

Qualifications

You must have completed approved studies equivalent to at least 180 higher education credits in food science, which corresponds to a bachelor's degree, and not have started a doctoral program. To be qualified for the position, you must have good knowledge of the languages used in the courses you work with, i.e., Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

In addition to the skills assessment, great importance is placed on personal suitability and ability to collaborate. We will primarily consider applicants who, after a comprehensive assessment, are deemed to have the best conditions to carry out the described responsibilities.

Employment

The position refers to intermittent employment (according to LAS §5.2 Temporary Employment) by agreement during the first half of 2025. Teaching in the courses takes place on-site at the Department of Food and Nutrition Science in Gothenburg. The work involves approximately 100 hours and is planned within the contract period. You have an intermittent employment during the work opportunities that occur during this period. In intermittent employment, you are called in and choose to accept the offered work, which then constitutes a new employment relationship at each individual occasion. You also have the right to decline such an offer. Worked hours are reported per calendar month to the employer via time sheets or email.
