The role of the special educator

With us, you will be there to facilitate and create security for the children in contact with habilitation as well as work consultatively with parents and preschool/school.

You will have assignments with us that involve advising on children's play and learning, interaction and communication, and you will teach pedagogical strategies to manage daily routines and demands.

Early interventions for children at habilitation are of great importance where you will meet many younger children, even if the assignment concerns children and young people aged 0-18 years. You will contribute your knowledge in the neuropsychiatric investigations that are carried out continuously during the term. You will contribute and participate in various lectures and training. You contribute your expertise in a transdisciplinary team where the climate and broad knowledge create good conditions for continued learning and development.

Your future workplace

The Habilitation Center works with people with some form of disability, and we address individuals who have:

• intellectual disabilities
• permanent motor disabilities that are congenital or acquired during childhood, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or muscular dystrophy
• neuropsychiatric disabilities in combination with intellectual disabilities
• acquired brain injury with permanent cognitive impairment equivalent to intellectual disabilities
• significant visual impairment, blindness, or deafblindness
• deafness, hearing impairment, deafblindness, sound sensitivity, tinnitus, or other hearing-related disabilities.

The perspective is always both medical, educational, psychological, and social. This means that relatives are an important partner both in terms of interventions and working methods.

Your profile

We are looking for you who are a special educator, preferably with training as a preschool teacher or primary school teacher, and who has good knowledge of and previous experience meeting children with significant and permanent disabilities such as autism, ADHD, and intellectual disabilities. We would like you to have experience working with Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). You have good knowledge of children's development and how adjustments in the preschool/school learning environment, supported by pedagogical strategies, can create conditions for children's development and learning.

To thrive with us, you need the ability to work well both independently and in a team. You need to be open to many different perspectives and be confident in conveying your own special educational competence. The position involves a lot of personal responsibility for planning and documentation, and you need to have good skills in independently managing your time.

As a person, you have a good ability to communicate, both in meetings with the child and parents as well as with other professionals, you are creative and flexible in response to the needs of the children and families you meet.
