Being a youth counselor

Some children and young people need extra support and guidance to promote positive development. As a youth counselor, you are an important adult whose primary task is to build relationships, map risk and protective factors, conduct reflective/treatment conversations, and motivate change. You will do this based on an individual assignment description with clear objectives.

The role of a youth counselor includes planning and coordinating meetings with the child/youth, your immediate supervisor, the adults the child lives with, and our clients. During the meetings, you are responsible for ensuring that the planning for the current meeting is followed. Meetings primarily take place in public places or in the home where the child lives.

After each meeting, you are responsible for compiling a written and oral report to your immediate supervisor and clients. You also participate in planning meetings/discussions with your immediate supervisor and clients. You may also attend meetings with other actors who are part of the child's or youth's life.

To be a youth counselor, you need to be secure, flexible, attentive, and structured. In addition to having a university degree in social work, personal suitability is crucial for the role.

Scope

The meetings are regular and can occur on weekdays and weekends. Often, meetings take place with a week's or two weeks' interval. The meetings usually last between one to two hours per occasion.

The work offers flexibility and variation, where you, in dialogue with your immediate supervisor, are involved in planning the hours you work.

Requirements:

· Driver's license B

· Education in social work

Meritorious:

· Experience with children and youth

· Experience in open care services

· Experience as a youth counselor/qualified contact person

To work as a youth counselor within Hemnovia's open care services, you need to submit a police record extract from the Police's suspicion and criminal record register (for HVB homes). Therefore, we appreciate if you attach the requested extract with your application.
