Project Description

Research Subject: Technical Materials Science

The Horizon Europe-funded project "Metallic Elements Dissipation Avoided by Life Cycle Design for Steel" (MEDALS) focuses on improving steel recycling by managing tramp elements – unwanted impurities that accumulate during the recycling process.

The PhD candidate will lead high-temperature experiments to improve scrap processing and steel quality. The role involves developing innovative pyrometallurgical solutions, modeling industrial processes, and validating results. The main tasks include designing and conducting laboratory experiments to remove tramp elements from liquid steel.

Supervision: Dr. Björn Glaser is proposed to supervise the PhD candidate; the decision will be made upon admission.
