SJ's overall goal is to contribute to Scandinavia's growth and climate goals by delivering 50% more trips by 2030. To realize this growth journey, we are making historic investments of 19 billion in new high-speed trains, new regional trains, and upgrades to our existing vehicle fleet.

As an important part of our exciting journey, we are also focusing on our ability to create value through the use of data and analytics. The Data & Analytics unit was established in 2023 and is now scaling up its capabilities to deliver broadly across the group. This capability is crucial to future-proof the business and maximize the benefits from larger investments, not only on the vehicle side but also in new IT systems for booking and sales systems, workforce planning, operational traffic management, and intelligent vehicle maintenance.

Your future role

As a Data Scientist, you will be a central part of our newly formed Data & Analytics team. Here, you will have the opportunity to develop in a role where you will:

Drive exciting projects from the idea stage to a finished solution, with a direct impact on the company's success
Work with the entire data management process, including collection, preparation, modeling, and visualization of data
Implement innovative solutions in production environments and handle large amounts of data to discover valuable insights
Communicate your findings to various stakeholders and help transform technical insights into concrete business strategies
Explore and experiment with modern technology to improve our processes. You will balance rapid experimental development with creating structured and maintainable code for production

The Data & Analytics unit is part of the Finance function and works together with the IT division, as well as closely with Strategy & Business Development and Business Control, both of which are within Finance.

Expectations for the ideal candidate

An academic degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, or a similar field
Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
Experience with cloud-based environments; knowledge of Azure Databricks is a big plus
Understanding of agile working methods and modern development principles like DevOps and CI/CD
An analytical and curious nature, with a passion for solving complex problems
Excellent communication skills and the ability to make technical concepts understandable to non-technical stakeholders
Very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written
Experience with predictive maintenance is a plus
