Support Educator for Bärby Children's Home
We are all different. We are also all alike and have the same right to a safe home, meaningful employment, and to feel valuable. With the right conditions, we can grow, develop, and participate in society on our own terms.
Within the administration for support to people with disabilities, we provide support, service, and care to children and adults with disabilities and create opportunities for them to live a good and independent life, just like everyone else. By spreading knowledge and collaborating within the City of Gothenburg and with other actors, we increase understanding of individuals' needs and design interventions that make a real difference.
With 6,200 dedicated employees, we are Sweden's largest support administration for people with disabilities. We work within housing with special services, daily activities, employment, housing support, personal assistance, children's and short-term housing, respite care, and support and guidance.
Do you want to contribute to a more inclusive society? Welcome to us!
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a support educator with us, you will work in a team together with other support educators, support assistants, and in close collaboration with the unit manager and others who are important in the child's network.
There will be great opportunities for you to influence the design of the role, especially since this is a new start for Bärby Children's Home. The child/youth who will be moving in is between 12-16 years old.
Your main task is to offer individual pedagogical support that contributes to a meaningful, independent, and developing life in accordance with LSS. You provide the child with individually tailored support in daily activities; everything from personal care and home life to guiding in activities and outings.
Communication and cognitive support are areas we actively work with, and we consistently use proven pedagogical methods such as clear pedagogical approaches, low-affect responses, and alternative and augmentative communication to create comprehensibility and predictability. Working with a low-affect approach means that we take responsibility for the situation by evaluating what happened and what may have led to the incident, in order to collaboratively find solutions moving forward. We want the youth at Bärby to experience a sense of success in every interaction with us.
We place great emphasis on the youth being able to influence their everyday life through maximum participation and support, and we work with tailored solutions for the individual, whether it concerns leisure activities, cognitive understanding, or the individual's interests.
The working hours are scheduled for days, evenings, and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS
For the position of support educator, a post-secondary specialization in the field of disabilities is required, comprising at least 200 YH points, 120 higher education credits, or a combination thereof that corresponds to at least four semesters of full-time studies. Alternatively, 60 higher education credits and at least two years of experience working with support and service for people with disabilities.
We expect you to have very good knowledge of social documentation. If you do not meet the qualification requirements in Swedish 1 or Swedish as a second language 1, you may be offered to take a language test through the test user Educateit.
It is a requirement that you have experience with LAB (low-affect responses) and AAC (alternative and augmentative communication). You also need to have a B driver's license automatic.
We consider it an advantage if you have previous experience working in HVB homes for youth, working with family conversations and network work, as well as motivational interviewing.
For the position, we see that you convey information and ideas clearly both verbally and in writing. You ensure that your message gets across. You adapt your communication according to the recipient, target group, and situation.
Furthermore, you are motivated by clearly defined goals and have the ability to translate these into concrete actions. With a focus on the goal, you can reprioritize your work when conditions or needs change. You follow up and report results and goal fulfillment. You plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively. You ensure that the work is completed on time and follow up on the results.
Finally, you are motivated to learn new things and develop. You come up with new ideas and take the initiative for improvements. You actively monitor developments in your professional field and regularly reflect on what needs to be developed in your operations.
Welcome with your application!
