JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. Work at a detention center is often routine-driven and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the detention center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you will be working together with your colleagues to run the operations, you need to have good teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Good judgment and integrity are required in your professional practice. You must have a physical condition that allows you to act physically when the situation requires it.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• A completed high school education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• Good computer skills.

It is advantageous if you have:

• Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• A valid driver's license (B).

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. A security check will precede the decision on employment. Certain positions are classified in a security category, and a security assessment with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. For positions with a higher security classification, you must be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
