Electricity Prices in Sweden: Today's and Tomorrow's Forecast
Today, April 3, 2025, we have an exciting day in the electricity market with variations in prices ranging from negative prices in the middle of the day to higher prices during morning and evening peaks. Tomorrow, April 4, looks set to follow a similar trend with some surprises in price development.
Today's Electricity Prices
Today's electricity prices started at midnight with an average price of 26 öre per kWh. During the early morning hours, prices varied between 8 and 43 öre per kWh, peaking at 07:00-07:59 at 61 öre per kWh. In the middle of the day, between 11:00 and 15:59, prices dropped to negative levels, meaning consumers are actually paid to use electricity. The cheapest hour is between 13:00 and 13:59 with -7 öre per kWh.
Free Electricity Usage
During the cheapest hour today, it costs nothing to shower, bathe, charge the car, or play games. This is a golden opportunity to take advantage of the low electricity prices for energy-intensive activities.
Tomorrow's Electricity Prices
Tomorrow we will see continued variation in electricity prices. Prices start at 14 öre per kWh at midnight and reach their highest point at 07:00-07:59 with 62 öre per kWh. In the afternoon, between 12:00 and 14:59, prices again drop to negative levels, providing an opportunity for free electricity usage.
Free Electricity Usage
Tomorrow there will also be an hour where the electricity price is zero. Between 22:00 and 22:59, it is free to use electricity for showering, bathing, charging the car, or playing games.
Cost Calculations for Today
During today's cheapest hour, it costs -29 öre to shower, -44 öre to bathe, and -11 öre to run the dishwasher. Charging an electric car costs -448 öre and playing games on a computer costs -3 öre. These costs are based on the respective energy consumption for each activity.
Potential for Annual Savings
If we had the lowest electricity price of the day all year, it would have cost -1346 kronor to heat a standard-sized house of 160 sqm, which is a significant saving compared to today's most expensive hour, where the cost would have been 11241 kronor.
Cost Calculations for the Most Expensive Time Today
During today's most expensive hour, a bath costs 374 öre, running the dishwasher costs 93 öre, charging an electric car costs 3747 öre, and playing games on a computer costs 31 öre. This highlights the importance of planning energy-intensive activities during the cheaper hours of the day.
Summary
Today's and tomorrow's electricity prices present both challenges and opportunities for consumers to optimize their electricity usage. By taking advantage of the negative prices, households can save money while also contributing to a more balanced electricity consumption. It serves as a reminder of the importance of being aware of electricity prices and planning energy usage accordingly.
