The Department of Education, Communication and Learning (IPKL) is part of the Faculty of Education at the University of Gothenburg. The department conducts extensive and internationally leading research on the living conditions of children and youth, on preschool and children's learning, on the consequences of digitalization for schools and education, as well as on adult learning in work and other contexts. The department offers education at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, with the most extensive assignment being teaching within the preschool teacher program and the primary teacher program with a focus on work in leisure centers.

Subject Description
Child and Youth Science is a doctoral-level subject that addresses aspects of children's and young people's learning, development, and socialization from birth to adolescence from an interdisciplinary perspective. The focus is on formal and informal educational environments and on questions at the intersection of educational environments, leisure cultures, and family.
Job Responsibilities
The position includes teaching and collaboration within the primary teacher program with a focus on work in leisure centers, where the department is responsible for all courses in the practical training. Teaching in the practical courses includes, in addition to lectures and practice seminars, visits and assessments of leisure pedagogical professional development at the VFU site.
The applicant is expected to participate in teaching, examination, and course development within practical training. The applicant should be prepared to take a prominent role in the department's work by, for example, initiating and developing education in practical training, initiating exchanges of experience with the field, contributing to an ongoing discussion about how research and education can mutually develop, and being given space within the framework of the department's teaching assignment in practical training. The applicant is expected to be able to teach in Swedish.
Qualifications
Qualifications for employment as a teacher are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
Eligible for appointment as an adjunct university lecturer is one who has demonstrated pedagogical skill, has completed higher education at least at the advanced level, or has other qualifications that are significant in relation to the subject matter of the position and the tasks to be included in the appointment.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are specified in Chapter 4, Sections 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's own employment regulations.
Particular emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skill and the ability to develop educational activities in collaboration with colleagues and the surrounding community, where the following criteria are particularly considered:
- relevant education for work in leisure centers, e.g., a degree in child and youth pedagogy with a focus on work in leisure centers, a degree from the leisure pedagogy program, or a teaching degree for teaching in leisure centers/leisure pedagogical activities
- experience in supervising students in practical training within the leisure pedagogical field as well as quality and development work
- experience in teaching in the primary teacher education program with a focus on work in leisure centers
- experience in working with outdoor pedagogy
The personal qualities of the applicants in being able to collaborate internally and externally to perform the described tasks will be taken into account in the assessment of suitability for the position. Furthermore, skill in collaborating with the surrounding community and informing about the education nationally and internationally will be given importance.
Since the work involves travel in connection with visits to leisure centers, a driver's license and access to a car are desirable.
According to the Employment Regulations for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg, higher education pedagogical training/development during the first two years as an adjunct teacher is a requirement for continued adjunct status.
Employment
The employment is a fixed-term position from October 2025 until January 15, 2026, with a scope of 20-40 percent. Possibility of extension may be available. The position is located at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning.
