Within the area of special educational support, we work to ensure that our special educational support creates conditions for all children, students, and adult learners with disabilities to access an equal education and other quality activities in a safe environment. We complement the municipalities' and schools' own special educational resources. The support we offer can relate to individual learning, educators' work, or operations and organization.

The Resource Center Department has resource centers for students who:

  • are deafblind
  • have visual impairment or blindness
  • have visual impairment or blindness with additional disabilities
  • are deaf or have hearing impairment with intellectual disabilities
  • have a severe language disorder

We conduct special educational assessments as part of the authority's support. The assessment addresses pedagogical questions and provides well-founded recommendations regarding the needs required for an accessible learning environment.

The authority's special educational support aims to be promoting and preventive to provide long-term and sustainable learning for children and students with disabilities.

We are looking for advisors to SPSM's Resource Center for Speech and Language, which provides national special educational support in the area of severe language disorders to principals, teachers, and educational staff.

At the request of the principal, we conduct interdisciplinary special educational assessments with advisors, psychologists, and speech therapists. We also offer information and training to teachers, educational staff, and guardians.

Currently, we have 10 employees placed in Stockholm and Umeå. As an advisor, you will work with complex special educational issues. You will provide advice and support to student health services, principals, teachers, and other staff in preschools and schools.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As an advisor, you will work with special educational assessments in inquiries from preschools and schools. The support we provide should be preventive and promoting to achieve long-term and sustainable results. The special educational support should facilitate preschools and schools in providing an equal education according to the requirements of the Education Act. Each inquiry is unique in its own way. As an authority, we are a process-driven organization. You, in dialogue with colleagues and management, will have opportunities to influence the design of the support provided. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team consisting of psychologists, speech therapists, and advisors.

Internal and external meetings will occur digitally to some extent.

As we have a national assignment across Sweden, travel with overnight stays in other locations is included.

Job Tasks:

  • to conduct special educational assessments and document the special educational recommendations
  • to provide recommendations for developing learning environments and teaching for increased opportunities for knowledge development
  • to focus on children's rights to language
  • to develop and implement various training initiatives
  • to have good ability and experience in working independently and in teams both internally and externally
  • to follow and engage with as well as implement national and international research and proven experience in the areas of school development and language disorders.

The work as an advisor is a varied and stimulating job where you have the opportunity to influence your own work situation. You will have access to a broad network of various competencies within the special educational field. In some assignments and tasks, you will have close collaboration with colleagues in other units within the authority and from different parts of the country.

Your work will also include participating in development work in the area and continuously developing your skills to deepen your knowledge in the field of special education with a focus on language disorders.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

  • teacher certification with authorization to teach grades 1-3 in elementary school
  • degree as a special educator or special teacher
  • several years of experience teaching reading skills at the lower primary level
  • experience in pedagogical mapping
  • experience in assessments within interdisciplinary teams
  • experience working with children and students with language disorders
  • is well-grounded in the school's curriculum, values, and governing documents as well as goals for disability policy
  • has a driver's license
  • good ability to use the Swedish language in speech and writing
  • good ability to handle IT-based tools and teaching materials

It is meritorious if you have:

  • education with specialization/focus on language disorders
  • experience working with children in preschool class
  • experience in multicultural learning environments
  • experience leading discussions with groups

Personal Qualities:

  • has a good ability to work in teams, develop new contacts, and create good relationships
  • has good ability and experience in working independently and in groups
  • has a good structure and order in their work approach
  • possesses initiative and development ability

OTHER

A probationary period of 6 months will apply.

A criminal record extract must be presented before employment.

In the event of a societal crisis, you may be directed to work between the authority's areas of operation based on your placement.
