Adjunct Teacher in Child and Youth Science

The Department of Education, Communication and Learning (IPKL) is part of the Faculty of Education at the University of Gothenburg. The department conducts extensive and internationally leading research on the living conditions of children and youth, on preschool and children's learning, on the consequences of digitalization for schools and education, as well as on adult learning in work and other contexts. The department offers education at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, with the most extensive assignment being teaching within the preschool teacher program and the primary teacher program with a focus on work in leisure centers.

Subject Description

Child and Youth Science is a doctoral-level subject that addresses aspects of children's and young people's learning, development, and socialization from birth to adolescence from an interdisciplinary perspective. The focus is directed towards formal and informal educational environments and towards questions at the intersection of educational environments, leisure cultures, and family.

Job Responsibilities

The position includes teaching and collaboration related to the preschool teacher program, where the department is responsible for all courses in the workplace-based education. As part of the education, visits to students at the VFU site are conducted, where assessment of the student's progression in relation to the goals in the curriculum is also made. The position as an adjunct teacher may also include teaching in other courses in the program.

The applicant is expected to participate in teaching, examination, and course development. The applicant should be prepared to take a prominent role in the department's work by, for example, initiating and developing education in workplace-based education, initiating exchanges of experience with the field of practice, contributing to an ongoing discussion on how research and education can mutually develop, and being given space within the framework of the department's teaching assignment in workplace-based education. The applicant is expected to be able to teach in Swedish.

Eligibility

Eligibility for employment as a teacher is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.

Eligible for appointment as an adjunct university lecturer is one who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has completed higher education at least at the advanced level or has other qualifications that are significant in relation to the subject matter of the position and the tasks that will be included in the employment.

To be eligible, you must also be a licensed preschool teacher.

Assessment Criteria

Assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are specified in Chapter 4, Sections 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's own employment regulations.

Particular importance will be attached to pedagogical skill and the ability to develop educational activities in collaboration with colleagues and the surrounding community, where the following criteria are particularly considered:

  • experience in supervising students in workplace-based education
  • experience in teaching and course development within courses in workplace-based education in the preschool teacher program

The personal qualities of the applicants in being able to collaborate internally and externally to perform the described tasks will be taken into account when assessing suitability for the position. In addition, skill in collaborating with the surrounding community and informing about the education nationally and internationally will be given weight.

As the work involves travel in connection with visits to preschools in the Gothenburg region, a driver's license is required, and access to a car is desirable.

According to the Employment Regulations for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg, higher education pedagogical training/development during the first two years as an adjunct teacher is a requirement for continued adjunct status.

Employment

The employment is a fixed-term position from August 2025 until January 2026 at the latest, with a scope of 20-49 percent. Possible extension may be considered. The position is located at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning.
